Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 400 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely then responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century.On 30/9/2014, Sy Scholfield changed the time to 6:30 a.m., quoting from the German biography "Johann Strauß, der Walzerkönig, und seine Dynastie. Familiengeschichte, Urkunden" by Hanns Jäger-Sunstenau (Verlag für Jugend und Volk, 1965), p. 23: "Am Morgen des 25. Oktober 1825, um halb sieben Uhr, wurde im Haus St. Ulrich Nr. 76 (7, Lerchenfelder Straße 15) der Walzerkönig geboren. Am selben Tag trug man ihn in die Pfarrkirche zur Taufe und die Katetschenmacherstochter Anna Koppl waltete ihres Amtes als Patin."
