Vedic Horoscope for Charbonneau, Jean Baptiste
American explorer, guide, fur trapper trader, military scout during the Mexican-American War, alcalde (mayor) of Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, and a gold prospector and hotel operator in Northern California. He spoke French and English, and learned German and Spanish during his six years in Europe from 1823 to 1829. He also spoke Shoshone and other western American Indian languages, which he picked up during his years of trapping and guiding. Charbonneau's image appears with that of his mother on the United States Sacagawea dollar bronze one dollar coin. Charbonneau died on May 16, 1866. Sy Scholfield cites Captain Meriwether Lewis's journal quoted in "Explorations Into the World of Lewis and Clark, V-1 of 3" by Robert A. Saindon (Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation, 2003), pp. 344-345: "11th February Monday 1805, ... the weather was fair and could wind N.W. about five o'clock this evening one of the wives of Charbono was delivered of a fine boy."
