German pianist and composer. Besides his dramatic music, Steibelt left behind him an enormous number of compositions, mostly for the piano. He died in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on October 2 [O.S. September 20] 1823.Sy Scholfield cites birth certificate quoted in "Daniel Steibelt: sein Leben und seine Klavier-werke" by Gottfried Müller (V. Koerner, 1933), p. 5: "Daniel Gottlieb Steibelt wurde am 22. Oktober 1765 in Berlin geboren. Seine Geburtsurkunde fand sich in den Büchern der Georgenkirche am Alexanderplatz zu Berlin. Dort heißt es: Daniel Gottlieb Steibelt getauft d. 25. Oct. 1765, Vater: Johann Gottlieb Steibelt, U.-Off. von Dhl.- Obrist von Lüderitz Compagnie, Mutter: Maria Couriol. geb. Dienstag d. 22. Oct. Mittag um halb 1 Uhr. Pathen: 1. Herr Bonsfeldt Gastwirth 2. Herr Berringer."
