Austrian Roman Catholic priest and writer who wrote the words to the Christmas carol "Silent Night". Mohr died of pulmonary disease on 4 December 1848 at the age of 55.Sy Scholfield quotes "Stille Nacht! Dezember 1792 mittags 12 Uhr in Salzburg geboren und wenige Stunden später im Dom getauft. Sein Name steht beim Erzbischöflichen Konsistorial- archiv Salzburg im selben Taufbuch, in dem sich auch der Name Joannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus [lat. Amadeus] Mozart befindet. Allerdings ist das Kind Josephus Franciscas der Eltern Franz Moor und Anna Schoiberin im Anhang bei den unehelichen Kindern aufgeführt. Im Taufbuch IX/2 (1756-1814) der Salzburger Dompfarre kann man als letzte Eintragung für das Jahr 1792 folgenden mit lateinischen Abkürzungen versehenen Vermerk finden . . . Dezember 12 Uhr mittags geboren und 4 Uhr nachmittags getauft worden ist Joseph Franz, natürliches Kind [Filius Naturalis] Franz Moor, Musketier und Anna Schoiber, beide ledigen..."
