French industrialist, the creator and manufacturer of a front wheel drive car, the Citroen. During WW I his company mass-produced munitions and post-war, turned to automobile works. He introduced Henry Ford's assembly line methods to the European auto industry when he established one of the largest factories in France. In 1934, he lost control of his company with bankruptcy. Sy Scholfield quotes BC no. 261 in the online Paris Archives, 9e arr. Scholfield also quotes John Reynolds's book, "André Citroën: The Man and the Motor Cars" (Alan Sutton, 1996), p. 6: "Andre Citroen was born in Paris at exactly thirty minutes past midnight on the morning of 5 February 1878. The fifth and youngest child of Levie Citroen, a Jewish diamond merchant from Amsterdam."
