Italian writer, journalist and patriot. His 'Confessions of an Italian' is widely considered the most important novel about the Italian Risorgimento. He died in a shipwreck in the Tyrrhenian Sea on 4 March 1861.Sy Scholfield cites birth record quoted in "Ippolito Nievo: studio biografico con documenti inediti esumazioni e 15 tavole fuori testo" by Giuseppe Solitro (Tipografia del Seminario, 1936), p. 5: "Nievo Ippolito, Carlo, Giovanni Battista, Andrea, Leopoldo, Maria, nato il giorno 30 novembre 1831 alle ore otto antimeridiane, battezzato in casa de licentia Episcopali, da me sottoscritto Preposito - levatrice Angela Cumandoni, abitante in via S. Lucia - Li 12 dicembre seguirono."
