Vedic Horoscope for Kincaid, Jamaica

Antiguan-American novelist, essayist, gardener, and gardening writer, who lives in North Bennington, Vermont, during the summers and teaches at Harvard as the "Professor of African and American studies in Residence" at Harvard during the academic year. Kincaid is an award-winning writer whose work has been both praised and criticized for its subject matter because her writing largely draws upon her own life and her tone is often perceived as angry. In response, Kincaid counters that many writers also draw upon personal experience, and thus to describe her writing as autobiographical and angry is not valid criticism.Sy Scholfield quotes her in the autobiographical book "My Brother" by Jamaica Kincaid (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1997), pp. 170-71: "And then he [my brother] died, not in the middle of the night, which was the hour he was born, but in the very early morning, at about five o'clock, the hour I was born; and I know the hour he was born because I was there, and I know the hour I was born and the hour he died because our mother has told me."
