Vedic Horoscope for Kaplan, Mordecai

Lithuanian rabbi, essayist and Jewish educator and the co-founder of Reconstructionist Judaism along with his son-in-law Ira Eisenstein. From 1934 until 1970 Kaplan wrote a series of books in which he expressed his Reconstructionist ideology, which centred on the "concept of Judaism as a civilization". He was a prolific writer, keeping a journal throughout most of his life. He died in New York City on November 8, 1983 at the age of 102.Sy Scholfield quotes "A Modern Heretic and a Traditional Community: Mordecai M. Kaplan" by Jeffrey S. Gurock and Jacob J. Schacter (1997), p. 165: "See Kaplan, 'Journals,' 17:300 (December 10, 1955): 'According to what my father once told me, I was born on Friday night June 10, 1881 a few minutes before midnight.' See also [William] Berkowitz's transcript of his interview with Kaplan in Let Us Reason Together, p. 71: 'I was born on a Friday night. Since it was forbidden to record anything on the Sabbath, my father stopped the pendulum of the pendulum clock. It was then seven minutes before midnight' . . . however, Kaplan's passport gives his date of birth as June 11, 1881."
