American sculptor perhaps best known for his sculpture of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. (1922). Among his other magnificent works of historical fgures are the 1875 rendition of The Minute Man, statues of Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ulysses Grant and the Marquis de Lafayette.
