Vedic Horoscope for Flamsteed, John
British astronomer; the first Astronomer Royal of England, appointed on 4 March 1674-1675 and also the Director of Greenwich Observatory. He made the accurate observations of the moon which helped Newton formulate the laws of gravitation. He catalogued over 3000 stars. His appointment was an honour, with the title Astronomer Royal chosen from among the most famous British scientists. AA 7/1941 quotes a biography, An Account of the Reverend John Flamsteed by Francis Bailey (1835), giving 19 August [OS]. Sy Scholfield quotes Flamsteed from the same book, p. 7: "I was born at Denby, in Derbyshire, in the year 1646, on the 19th day of August, at 7h. 16m. after noon," and p. 25: "I was born at Denby [5 miles from Derby] in Derbyshire, August 19, 1646, at a ¼ of an hour past 7 at night; as I find in some old notes of my father's, who was the third and youngest son of Mr. William Flamsteed of Little Hallam in Derbyshire."
