Vedic Horoscope for de Ruyter, Michiel
Dutch admiral, the most famous and one of the most skilled in Dutch history. De Ruyter is most famous for his role in the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the 17th century. He fought the English and French and scored several major victories against them, the best known probably being the Raid on the Medway. The pious De Ruyter was very much loved by his sailors and soldiers; from them his most significant nickname derived: Bestevaêr (older Dutch for 'grandfather'.) He died on 29 April 1676 during the Battle of Augusta, when he was fatally wounded when a cannonball hit him in the left leg.Sy Scholfield quotes "Rechterhand van Nederland: biografie van Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter" by Ronald Boudewijn Prud'homme van Reine and Peter Prud'homme (De Arbeiderspers, 2007), p. 19: "Uit dit huwelijk kwamen maar liefst elf kinderen voort, zes dochters en vijf zoons: Lu- cretia (19 maart 1602), Michiel (16 april 1604), Neeltje (12 maart 1606), Michiel (24 maart 1607), . . . Michiel werd 's ochtends om acht uur geboren en nog diezelfde dag gedoopt in de Nederduits Hervormde Kerk van Vlissingen, de Grote of St. Jacobskerk."
