A radical anarchist as a teenager in the ’60s, Cooper’s career in journalism began in 1966 when he founded and edited an underground newspaper while attending high school in Los Angeles. He entered California State University but was kicked out by 1971. Proceeding to Chile, Cooper got a job working in the press office of Chilean President Salvador Allende.
