Polish and French politician and diplomat. He was widely rumoured to be the (unacknowledged) illegitimate son of Napoleon I by his mistress, Countess Marie Walewska. However, Countess Walewska's husband legally acknowledged him as his son. Alexandre Walewski died of a stroke at Strasbourg on 27 September 1868.Sy Scholfield quotes "Marie Walewska: Napoleon's great love" (Robin Clark Limited, 1979), p. 147: "On 4 May 1810, at four o'clock in the afternoon, Alexander Florian Joseph Colonna Walewski, a perfectly formed, robust little boy, opened his eyes on a world in which he was to enjoy a prominent and tempestuous career. 'I was born at the castle of Walewice in Poland, in the middle of a thunderstorm,' the future Foreign Minister of France wrote in his Memoirs some thirty-five years later." The source of the time of birth is unclear but the birth certificate is mentioned on the same page.
