She was married on 19 January 1559, at the age of 11, to Charles III, Duke of Lorraine who suffered from a hunchback and club foot. Very discreet, she was Catherine de' Medici's favourite daughter. Claude and her husband had nine children. Claude of Valois died in childbirth on 21 February 1575 in Nancy.Sy Scholfield quotes "Histoire de la Maison Royale de France, et des grands officiers de la Couronne" by Anselme de Sainte-Marie, Ange de Sainte-Rosalie (libr. associés, 1726), pp. 135-136: "Claude de France, née à Fontainebleau le samedi 12. novembre 1547. entre 7. & 8. du matin."
