He was the younger brother of Sarojini Naidu, a child prodigy, Indian independence activist and poet.Sy Scholfield quotes "Life and Myself. Volume 1" by Harindranath Chattopadhyaya (Nalanda, 1948), p. 1: "According to the old Birthday Book, with yellowing pages and strange inscriptions of the date and time of birth of sisters and brothers who were born before me, I was born on the 2nd April, 1898 . . . in Hyderabad . . . [the clock] struck 4 o'clock in the afternoon while my mother was bearing me . . . and when the clock stood at a quarter after hour [sic], I came into the world, or rather, 'leapt naked' into it."
