He had nine kids; the first child, a son, died soon after birth.Paul Wright quotes a letter from the English Ambassador to his Secretary of State, "On Monday last the King rode to the Queen to Dunfermline and returned yesternight. They never loved better. This night at 11 of the clock the Queen was delivered of a son and word therof this night at about three hours brought to the King."
