German cyclist who rode professionally from 1912 to 1933, having started cycling in 1909 as an amateur. On the road, he primarily won podium places, such as Vienna–Berlin 1912 and 1914 (second), Rund um Hainleite 1913 (second), the German Road Championship 1913 (third) and Rund um Berlin 1913 (third). In 1915 he had his first success with a victory at Berlin–Cottbus–Berlin, which he won a second time in 1916. His second place position on the long-distance journey from Vienna to Berlin in 1912 behind Franz SuterBauer was considered his most beautiful race because he managed to achieve this position through great willpower despite poor form. Bauer also competed in 19 six-day races, two of which he won in Berlin, 1922 with Karl Saldow and 1923 with Oskar Tietz. Fritz Bauer won the Goldenen Rads (Golden Wheel) from Berlin (held in Treptow) from 1916 to 1919.
