It is the most important festival in the Christian calendar and the climax of Holy Week, which begins with Palm Sunday and includes Good Friday. The date is computed by the Western Computus algorithm — the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon following the spring equinox — which is why it shifts each year between March 22 and April 25.
Easter follows a luni-solar rule: the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after the vernal equinox (fixed at March 21 in the Gregorian computus). This page uses the Western Gregorian computation. Eastern Orthodox Easter follows the Julian calendar and typically lands one to five weeks later.
