American wildlife biologist who served as President of The Wildlife Society 1989-1990, receiving its prestigious Aldo Leopold Award in 1996. Sharp and two women who served as midwives in the community attended my birth. Our home had only coal oil (kerosene) lamps for light--very poor for the task, especially since I was born at 4:15 a.m."
