English portrait and history artist, writer, and friend of Samuel Johnson who was complimentary about her "Essay on Taste" (privately printed, 1784). The youngest sister of Sir Joshua Reynolds, she kept his house for many years after he came to London. But when her nieces, the Misses Palmer, were old enough to take her place, she (some point before 15 February 1779) left his house forever. The separation from her brother caused her lasting regret.Sy Scholfield cites her brother Joshua Reynolds quoting from family bible in Life and Times of Sir Joshua Reynolds: With Notices of Some of His Contemporaries ; Commenced by Charles Robert Leslie ; Continued and Concluded by Tom Taylor, Volume 1 (J. Murray, 1865), p. xii: "1729, May 10.--Saturday, just before 10 in the morning, my sister Frances was born." This date was a Saturday in the Julian calendar. Wikipedia gives 6 June which was the date she was baptised, not her birth date.
