America's first set of surviving quintuplets to be conceived through the use of fertility drugs. They were born to parents who had previously conceived two other children through the use of the fertility drug Pergonal. They were only the second set of surviving quintuplets born in the U.S. so news of their birth made international headlines. They were brought home to Liberty Corner, New Jersey on 27 April 1970, two months after they were born. As babies and toddlers they were featured on numerous talk shows and commercials and Good Housekeeping magazine had an exclusive deal to publish four articles about them in their first two years.Sy Scholfield quotes news report: "born at the Presbyterian Hospital last night ... born within a 10-minute span, from 10:08 to 10:18 P.M. The first, a girl, was born at 10:08, the second also a girl, was born at 10:09, the third, a boy, at 10:13, the fourth, another girl, at 10:16, and the fifth, a second boy, at 10:18... born at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, at 168th Street west of Broadway" ("Jersey Woman Has Quintuplets," New York Times, 25 Feb. 1970, p. 1).
